vU3A activities
In the vU3A, as in most traditional local U3As, the activities take place in small interest groups of some 6-10 people. This would seem to be the optimum size to allow for effective socializing and for sufficient variety in ideas and contributions. up to join. Full instructions as to what to do next are given there.
Future subjects
There is a Notice Board where members can contact one another with suggestions for topics of interest and for new groups. The Notice Board is the meeting place that will give rise to the formation of new interest groups. To go to the Notice Board in vU3A Wiki click here (no link yet) if you have registered. The Notice Board is actually a Wiki. See the section on Wikis. Or click here.

Group leaders
Interest groups need to be ‘led’. Some would say ‘co-ordinated’, others ‘moderated’. Whatever the appropriate term may be, there is always a need for one individual to take a lead and do whatever is necessary to help make a group successful.

The vU3A cannot do without such people. The Group Leader’s role in the vU3A environment is a crucial one. Not only is the Group Leader able to determine the Moodle features available within the group, but he or she will also have a facilitating and coordinating role vis-à-vis the members who enrol. A Group Leader may have to encourage, enthuse and advise the group members and help ensure that everyone benefits to the maximum degree possible from the shared learning experience.
